We decorated our tree last night! And it turned out beautiful, if I don’t say so myself :P

And boy oh boy was it an adventure getting this puppy to stand up straight.  We purchased the tree at Costco on Saturday.  We had a hot dog, and life was good.  Then we went to WalMart to find a tree stand- all sold out of tree stands.  Then we went to Target to buy a tree stand- the power was out at Target, and the generator had only turned on a few of the lights.  We searched for a tree stand with a Target Team Member and a flash light for about 15 mintues, with no luck.  Finally we went to Orchard Supply, where they had one size tree stand left.  We bought said tree stand.

We came home to put the tree into the tree stand- it did not fit!  We do not own a hand saw.  We do, however, own an electric jigsaw.  So, David spend the next hour and a half cutting down the tree to fit into the tree stand.  We had a Christmas party to attend, so we could not decorate the tree Saturday as planned.   We came home from the fabulous Christmas party to a tree that had tipped over.  So on Saturday at midnight we were back out in the garage cutting the tree so that it was even and would stand up straight.

We woke up Sunday morning, and it was still standing! I never thought I would be so excited to see a naked Christmas tree in my life! We did a bunch of Christmas shopping on Sunday, and then visited Christmas in the Park in the evening, so we did not have a chance to decorate the tree.  Monday night we were finally able to pull out all of the ornaments and ribbon, watch Elf, drink wine, and decorate!

No matter how many times I see this movie I still LOVE it. Best Xmas movie out there.

Confession:  I’ve watched this twice already since Thanksgiving…not on DVD, which I own.  It’s my favorite.  “SINGING IS MY FAVORITE!”

Watched this last night as we decorated the tree! So cute, and totally puts ya in the Christmas decorating mood!

Amazing! I am mildly obsessed with my daily to-do lists.

TeuxDeux is a “simple, designy, free, browser-based to-do app” from SwissMiss.
I really love to do lists so this is right up my alley.  I love how it’s completely minimal and easy to use.  I’ll definitely be making good use of this app and will be looking forward to the iPhone version that’s in the works!

Amazing, I love lists! This comes just in time for the countdown to Christmas lists!

It’s snowing in the Bay Area!

and it’s STICKING!  how wild is this?  it just hailed with crazy fury downtown for a few minutes, and i just sat by my window and watched as the ice pinged off the glass.
winter, you’re my favorite.  don’t tell the other seasons, but you’re the tops.

[Life: Make] Peppermint Bark
Ingredients

14 oz. of white chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips (use the good stuff, guys!)
6 regular sized candy canes, crushed up
1 teaspoon of peppermint extract

Break up peppermint candy into little pieces. Melt the chocolate according to the instructions on the box. Once melted, add the peppermint extract and stir.Pour the melted chocolate (I like to layer white on top of dark but you could do any type of chocolate of course!) out onto a cookie sheet lined with wax paper and spread with a spatula. Sprinkle the peppermint candy chunks on to the chocolate and gently press  in with yours hands.Place in the freezer for 5 minutes or until hardened. Break into pieces and serve or store in the fridge or a tupperware (or gift them in a cute holiday tin!)

We are doing Christmas at our place this year… for my side of the fam as well as hubby’s! It’s going to be a huge celebration! I am going to add this to my dessert table…

Thanksgiving 2009

I had a absolutely perfect Thanksgiving holiday.  Breakfast at our place with my side of the family was a blast.  The Paula Deen French Toast Casserole that we made was amazing (and surprisingly easy to make)!  And dinner with hubby’s side of the family was by far the best home cooked meal I have enjoyed all year, as per usual.

And like every year that passes, I have an increasing number of items to be thankful for:

  • I’m thankful for my family.  For all of our strengths and weaknesses, and because we accept each other just as we are.  We do not try to change one another, but instead we embrace the things that make us unique as well as the things that tie us together as a family.  There is never a shortage of stories and laughter at our table.
  • I’m thankful for the time spent all together.  All too often people have to spend their holidays on the opposite side of the country or even the opposite side of the world from their families.  We are fortunate enough to have most of ours within a half an hour drive.
  • I’m thankful specifically for my two sisters.  Growing up I never knew how much they would come to mean to me.  What we have for each other is the definition of truly unconditional love.  They are 17 and 23, and wherever their lives take them, I will be behind them 100% of the way.
  • I’m thankful for this fantastic man, asleep at my side.  David makes everyday special.  We share so many great times, day in and day out, and for this I am blessed.
  • I’m thankful for old friends.  For the memories, the inside jokes, the understanding, the advice and the listening ears.  I’m thankful for the millions of laughs we have shared through the years, and for the brutal honesty that often puts me in my place.  I love and cherish the times we have shared and will continue to share.
  • I’m thankful for new friends.  I have met so many fabulous people over the last couple of years who have become some of my closest friends.  Sometimes when you meet someone new, it helps you to discover new things within yourself.  So, cheers to new friends and new experiences, and may they one day become old friends.
  • I’m thankful for my job.  Although much aggravation and many challenges come from my work, I am blessed to have a job.  I am blessed by the people I work with daily, and I am thankful to accept the direct deposit which replenishes our bank account on a weekly basis!
  • I’m thankful for our home.  I love being able to entertain and to invite people into our little retreat.  When I wake up every morning, I am reminded of what an amazing place this is.

It feels good to take a moment and realize how much there is to be thankful for.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with loved ones and delicious food!

How do people make it through life without a sister?
